In the age of cheap photography, an oil portrait is still something special, a wholly unique item in a world of infinite replications. It is the culmination of a lifetime’s dedication to a craft and the ultimate test of a painter’s skill. A painted portrait captures not only the likeness of the subject, but their spirit.
The first step in the process is getting acquainted with the client in person; understanding their tastes, preferences, and personality. Generally I prefer working from life, or from photographs I have taken personally, of the subject in a setting comfortable to them to yield a natural & bespoke portrait.
Working from life or from photographs both have their unique advantages and disadvantages, but my years of classical atelier education serve as a foundation to translate between the two, effectively blending the benefits of both while minimizing their weaknesses.
Portrait pricing begin at just $1000 and vary depending on complexity, deadline, and size. Travel expenses in the Seattle metro area are included and work-in-progress photos will be provided to assure continued satisfaction throughout the process.
